Let's be honest, nobody needs to be here for cancer. "Cancer's horrible" - Yeah. We know that. "We need effective treatments" - Duh. "Research takes money" - Calling Captain Obvious! You don't need me growing hair to tell you that. We're here for one reason - to legitimize sporting a glorious 'stache in public. Tom Selleck, Sam Elliot, Freddie Mercury, probably some other famous person under 70...we know they're awesome. Show me someone who doesn't secretly harbour a desire to don acid-wash jeans, a tight white tee, and the lushest, thickest lip warmer in history, and I'll show you someone who's lying. If it cures cancer in the process, bonus.

On a serious note - Men are idiots. A back slap counts as expressing ourselves. I don’t lift with my legs, I don’t talk about my feelings, I don’t get regular physicals. I tried to walk off a broken metacarpal rather than see a doctor. “Oh, that? Yeah that bone’s always poked out”. I have the high score on that blood pressure game in the pharmacy. I consider shutting off the breaker a suggestion. Health care needs to be as advanced as possible so that when idiots like me finally see someone, it’s not too late.

And Movember includes mental health now - I’ve been there. I ignored my mental health until it damaged everything in my life. It was embarrassing. If a good cause and a bit of humour can change that for someone, I’m in.
