My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health

This is one pathway along an ongoing journey to advocate for healthy, active lifestyle choices for men; to promote taking ownership for our mental health and wellness and be increasingly mindful of being in the present moment, practicing compassion, gratitude, forgiveness, and kindness for ourselves and for others. Education, prevention and treatment = improved quality of life.

It's been a challenging go-around this year keeping-up with Movember activities in the month of November. I am grateful for the 17 donations that came in and so I will have a busy winter completing 17 hours of skating. I am hoping to do some indoor and outdoor skating as I build my competency and confidence on the ice...skates up!

Made it as far North as Inuvik, Northwest Territories with this ‘stache. Unintentionally mind you as I had some flight detours. Nonetheless it’s a memorable MOment! I have been blessed to see as much of Northern Canada as I have. Travel can wear you down and it is challenging to care for yourself when you are in unfamiliar surroundings and out of your routine. Keep seeking the good and fortune in experiences and opportunities! ✌

And so ends another successful fundraising campaign. The bar continues to be raised. Until next year. Between now and Movember 2018, please continue to keep me in mind with your empties as I now begin to collect for next year's fundraiser.

Received this from an anonymous colleague at work (Ranchdale PS). I appreciate the time invested, creativity expressed and generosity shared by this individual (especially the closing line of the poem - genius!). It is kindness like this that keeps me motivated. Thank you. Whoever the heck you are?!?!

Howdy! Wrapping-up three weeks of fundraising and awareness and it's been brought to my attention that my moustache might be more palpable when it is blanketed with stubble. Agree or disagree? Or are you avoiding eye-contact with the moustache at all possible costs?

Big gains this week! Together we have pushed past the halfway mark of the $2,000 goal. Sporting my Raptors [Huskies throwback] hat after a monster win Tuesday night. Let's keep the monster donations coming. Any and every amount makes a difference and goes towards positive change. Let's keep MOving up!

Today I had the great fortune of meeting Johnny Issaluk (@issaluk on twitter) an Inuit of many talents and achievements. For me, what stands out most about Johnny is his energy + spirit. The students at school gravitated to Johnny and his storytelling. It was an authentic and fulfilling experience and left me feeling light and at ease - can't ask for more on a Friday afternoon! ;) Creating new opportunities for yourself can have similar effects, so get out there and pursue an interest, passion and/or curiosity. Embrace the unknown/unfamiliar in a new/different experience. And as Johnny shared with the students, don't let your fears stop you from learning, doing and being more. The fear might never go away, yet you can find a level of comfort within that fear.

One week in and the conversations are happening! Thank you to one and all for sharing your connections to Men's health and how it is impacting your life.
So far I haven't been solicited to shave my moustache to offset a donation, so that's a good sign! :-P

I shared an insightful conversation with my Mom this afternoon. We were reflecting on the recent passing of relatives in our family and the increase in widowed wives. The Movember campaign recognizes that men are dying too young, and if they aren't dying "young" (the relatives in our family were in their 70s or 80s) they are dying earlier than their female counterparts. It is a telling observation, and reason to support the Movember Foundation. Education, prevention and treatment can all make a difference - prolonging life, as well as, improving the quality of life for men globally.

*stats in the image are US-based.
**[according to WHO data] Global life expectancy at birth in 2015 was 71.4 years (73.8 years for females and 69.1 years for males). Women live longer than men all around the world. The gap in life expectancy between the sexes was 4.5 years in 1990 and had remained almost the same by 2015 (4.6).

So you might be wondering why you don't see a donation from me as of yet. Here is my guarantee to you. I will match 10% of total donations received as of November 30th. My goal is to raise $2,000 and with a 10% match of $200 we will work together to establish a new all-time fundraising high. Who knows, maybe we'll exceed $2,000 - that would be phenomenal! Either way, 10% of total donations will be matched by me - so go for broke y'all. ;-)

Dear moustache,
Reunited and it feels so good! Wasn't it hilarious, the amount of students today at work that said they didn't recognize us? The power of the mo has been unleashed! We had several conversations with colleagues, students and parents.
Let's do this. The mission begins...

Note: As donations can be made privately, not all donations are displayed to the public.
