Mental health and suicide prevention

Hey friends,

As you no doubt are aware, COVID-19 has drastically changed our world. Physical distancing requirements have made it extremely difficult to connect to supports outside of our bubble in the same ways we had gotten used to prior to the pandemic.
People have become more isolated from necessary services and supportive connections than ever. Hours of services have been reduced and the option to get a walk-in appointment with a mental health therapist is a rarity.

Our healthcare system is at a tipping point; doctors, nurses, healthcare aides, OTs, PTs, RTs, psychologists, social workers, pharmacists, phlebotomists, spiritual care coordinators, SLPs, managers and all other integral health workers are managing to continue to do their work at risk of burnout and COVID-19 transmission.

Our school system is fraught with similar risks with COVID-19 outbreaks in many schools. Many teachers have had to self-isolate and substitute teachers have needed to step in to sites with known exposures. Many schools are short staffed causing increasingly stressful scenarios.

Males continue to die by suicide more often than females. For many men, stress is at an all-time high and access to services is at an all-time low creating a very delicate balance. Please help the men in your life by donating to the Movember cause or sharing my post.
